Steve Colclasure of Cushing, Oklahoma scored back-to-back wins on a pair of Smart Little Lena offspring Thursday at the NCHA Eastern National Championships, presented by 6666 Ranch in Jackson, Mississippi.
He marked a 223.5 on Smart Little Crow to win the Open finals over $10,000 Novice champion Reyn Storm.
That followed his 220-point victory on Firecracker Bright, beating Rich N Snazzy in the $3,000 Novice finals.
Smart Little Crow is a 10-year-old gelding bred by the late Kelly Bartlett and owned by Teresa Blakley of Ripley, Oklahoma. He is by Smart Little Lena out of Badge Of Courage, from the family of NCHA Futurity champion Little Tenina and World Champion Tenino San. Smart Little Crow had earned more than $50,000 prior to his win in Jackson.
Open reserve champion Reyn Storm is a Dual Rey son ridden by Gabe Reynolds for Blackgold Ranch of Sweeden, Kentucky.
Colclasure owns his $3,000 Novice champ, Firecracker Bright. The 7-year-old son of Smart Little Lena was bred by Tommy Manion out of Daintys Cat, a daughter of 1998 NCHA Futurity champion Dainty Playgirl.
Firecracker Bright, who was an Open finalist at last year’s Eastern Nationals, has earned more than $40,000.
The reserve title in the $3,000 Novice went to Rich N Snazzy, a Cats Merada mare ridden by Austin Shepard for Mike and Libby Bowman of Simpsonville, Kentucky. Libby Bowman won the Amateur finals of tje Augusta Classic on her earlier this year.
