Gabe Reynolds of Shelbyville, Kentucky collected his first NCHA Eastern National Championships title Wednesday as the show, presented by 6666 Ranch, moved into high gear in Jackson, Mississippi.
In the $10,000 Novice finals, Reynolds rode Reyn Storm to a 225-point win over Divas On Time and Jesse Woodson James who shared the reserve championship with 219s.
Reyn Storm is a 10-year-old son of Dual Rey owned by Peter Trinke’s Blackgold Ranch. He was bred by Lauri Mills, who rode the horse’s dam, Playboys Stormy to win the Non-Pro NCHA Classic in 1994. Playboys Stormy also produced Playboy Boonsmal, an earner of $157,000. The mare line has been producing NCHA money earners all the way back to the 1940s.
Reyn Storm, who has also qualified for this week’s Open finals, was also a finalist in both classes at last year’s Eastern Nationals. He was a finalist in the Mercuria NCHA World Series at the Augusta Futurity earlier this year.
Co-Reserve Champion Divas On Time is a 5-year-old mare owned by Amanda Standish and ridden by Austin Shepard. She is by One Time Pepto out of Desires Cat, a daughter of NCHA Classic Challenge champion Desire Some Freckles.
Co-Reserve Jesse Woodson James is a 6-year-old owned by Rodger and Stephanie Clark and ridden by Walt Erwin. He was bred by Lannie Louise Mecom and is by Hickorys Indian Pep out of Colonels Smart Gal, the mare that carried Megan Merrill to the Amateur championship at the 2002 NCHA Classic Challenge.
