Kaitlyn Larsen of Millsap, Texas, and Sir Stylish Lizzy posted the top score of 219 Sunday, the first day of Non-Pro Classic competition at the NCHA Super Stakes, presented by XTO Energy in Fort Worth.
Kyle Manion marked 218.5 on Sid Smooth, while Brandon Dufurrena marked 218 on Nievas.
Bred by Tim Drummond, Sir Stylish Lizzy is a 6-year-old gelding by Lizzys Gotta Player out of Stylish Sharon. He won the Gelding Stakes at the 2011 Super Stakes with Michael Cooper, and was also reserve champion of the recent Cattlemen’s Classic with Cooper. He has earned more than $115,000.
Larsen, who has already won two major Non-Pro events this year with Light N Lily – the Abilene Spectacular and the Cattlemen’s Classic – has taken Sir Stylish Lizzy to the finals in the Bonanza, Abilene Spectacular, Augusta Classic and the Mercuria NCHA World Series at Augusta in 2013.
Manion’s mount, Sid Smooth, is by Smooth As A Cat, out of Sheza Playboy, the dam of $176,000 earner To Short To Play.
Dufurrena’s Nievas is a 6-year-old Cats Merada mare that has eared over $225,000.
Open, Round 2
Adan Banuelos marked 219 on Saturday to post the top cumulative score of 441 in the second round of the Open Super Stakes Classic. Banuelos, who is also competing in the John Deere Division, rode Innovation Time for Vincenzo Vario. The 6-year-old is by One Time Pepto out of Sweet Shorty Lena, the dam of NCHA Futurity winner Spots Hot.
Round 1 leader Look The Look, ridden by Matt Miller for Fazenda Barrinha Ranch, has the second high cumulative score at 440.5.
