Runnning Brook Gal, who overcame a bumpy start to win by 1 3/4 lengths in her trial, captured the $2 million, 440-yard All American Futurity today by 1 1/2 lengths, in :21.14 over a wet track. It was the third All American Futurity win for her trainer Paul Jones and the first for rider Ramon Sanchez.
“We’ve had a super weekend,” said Jones, who won Sunday’s All American Derby with Inseperable. “It doesn’t get any better than this.”
Runnning Brook Gal, by freshman sire Brookstone, was the fastest qualifier to the Ruidoso Futurity in her first start and placed second in the $625,000 Rainbow Futurity. Owned by her breeders, Chad Richards and A&C Racing, Roosevelt, UT, she was the only horse in the All American Futurity field to have qualified for all three Ruidoso Triple Crown races and now has earnings of more than $1.2 million.
Even money favorite Love Samba, fastest qualifier to the All American Futurity and the Rainbow Futurity, where she finished fourth, was compromised by an awkward start and finished fifth. Second-favorite Runnning Brook Gal paid 9.20 for her win.
The order of finish for the All American Futurity: Runnning Brook Gal, Shesa First Ratify, First Corona Call, Favorite Cartel, Love Samba, Swingin Daddyo, Winners Cartel, Gols Victory Pop and Jess So Sexy. Brooks Midnight, also owned by Richards and trained by Jones, was scratched.
