Sixteen-year-old Lane Wood of Stephenville, Texas marked 223 to lead the qualifiers to the $25,000-added Mercuria NCHA World Series of Cutting Non-Pro finals at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo on Saturday.
She rode Pepto Boom, an 8-year-old gelding, who is also an Open finalist with Lane’s dad, Kobie Wood. Bred by Double Dove Ranch, Pepto Boom is by Peptoboonsmal out of NCHA Classic Challenge champion Stylish Play Lena, a producer of earners of $940,000.
Lane was the show champion in the $35,000 Non-Pro on Pepto Boom at the Mercuria NCHA World Finals last December.
The finals will include four Non-Pro World Champions, Mary Jo Milner, Joe Howard Williamson, Tara Gaines and Brandon Dufurrena.
Milner had the second high score in the go-round, a 220 on Smooth Asa Zee, by Smooth As A Cat. Williamson was next with Woodys Bad Boy at 219.
