Barbara Brooks overcame a daunting Non-Pro Futurity finals that saw two former Augusta Futurity non-pro champions lose cattle and just five out of 16 finalists score above 210 points. It was Brooks’ first major win.
“It’s a very unusual circumstance to be in the finals, let alone come across with this,” said Brooks, whose husband, Kix, is the “Brooks” half of country music’s Brooks & Dunn.
Riding homegrown Sass And The City, by Downtown Cat, Brooks scored 218 points and earned $19,217 for her victory. Jason McClure claimed second place with 216 points on Panolas Memory.
Sass And The City whose sire, Downtown Cat, is owned by Brooks, was conditioned by Brad Mitchell, resident trainer for Barbara and Kix Brooks’ Painted Springs Farm, in Brentwood, TN.
