Champion quarter racing filly Heartswideopen sold for an undisclosed price reportedly well above $1 million on Monday, January 26.
The winner of the 2007 All American Futurity was sold by Manny and Javier Rodriguez to Julianna Hawn Holt.
“We’ve been working on this deal since being approached at the All American Sale [August 29-31, 2008 at Ruidoso Downs],” said Bennie Greathouse, Hawn Holt Cross Triangle Ranch manager. “We’ve been going back and forth on price since then.”
Heartswideopen shipped to Menifee, California in early December in preparation for breeding at Burns Ranch to Walk Thru Fire, the leading first year sire in 2005.
“We have a share in Walk Thru Fire and really believe in him,” Greathouse said. “We don’t do embryo transfers and we are always looking for young mares who haven’t been embryo transferred. She fits that and just look at her race record and pedigree.”
Heartswideopen is by leading sire Feature Mr Jess and out of two-time champion Dashing Phoebe. She earned the 2007 champion two-year-old and champion two-year-old filly titles after winning the Grade 1, $2 million All American Futurity and the Grade 1, $500,000 Ruidoso Futurity. She is also a top contender for 2008 championship titles, after Grade 1 wins in the Ruidoso Derby and the Rainbow Derby. She retired with 11 wins from 13 starts and earnings of $1,885,203.
After being pronounced in foal, Heartswideopen will ship to the Hawn Holt Cross Triangle Ranch near Blanco, Texas, where she will join a stellar band of mares, including Corona Chick, the leading producer of earners of over $3.2 million and herself a three-time champion, as well as dam of four-time champion and stakes producer Corona Cash.
