Janet Westfall of Los Olivos, California, marked 221 Monday on Reckless Child to set the pace through the first two days of Non-Pro competition at the 2012 NCHA Futurity in Fort Worth. Westfall’s husband, Russ, also qualified Reckless Child for the Open semi-finals with a cumulative score of 431.5.
The homebred mare is by CD Royal out of Trouble Lynn 495, a Smart And Trouble mare that also produced Lil Bit Reckless, an earner of $230,000, and Just As Reckless ($101,000). Westfall won the El Rancho Classic on Lil Bit Reckless and was also a semi-finalist on that mare at the 2007 NCHA Futurity.
Janet will also advance from the first round with her 217 on Gentle Ben, another CD Royal offspring, out of PG Selena, a Playgun mare that has produced two money earners.
Alycia Bellenfant and Michelle Cowan share the second high score of 218.5 after the first two days of the Non-Pro.
Bellenfant rode Lizzard Jack, a gelding by freshman sire Cats Quixote Jack out of Lizzie Fair, a daughter of 1991 NCHA Futurity Open champion Little Tenina.
Cowan, who is also topping the Limited Non-Pro ranks, rode Merada Jo, a son of Cats Merada out of Sanjo Sue, by San Jo Lena.
The first go-round of the Non-Pro continues through Thursday.
