A strong market for yearlings and young mares attracted buyers to the 2012 Western Bloodstock NCHA Summer Spectacular Sale, on Saturday, July 28, the last day of the NCHA Derby in Fort Worth.

“It was a good sale for this Summer catalog of horses,” said Milt Bradford of Western Bloodstock. “I think everyone was pleased with the results.”

Six-year-old Playin T Etta, along with an embryo conceived this year by Smooth As A Cat, topped the sale at $65,000. The TR Dual Rey daughter, earner of $104,033, was consigned by SDP Buffalo Ranch and purchased by Keith Candee.

Yearling filly Ms Cat Walk, by Metallic Cat, was the second-highest seller at $60,000. Out of NCHA world champion mare Ms Mimosa and consigned by Reata Cutting Horses, Ms Cat Walk was purchased by Curtis Weeks.

Sweet Cat RG was the top selling 3-year-old at $52,000. The High Brow Cat daughter, in training with Dirk Blakesley, is out of a daughter of Smart Little Lena and Remedy For Sweets, earner of over $200,000. She was consigned by Ralph Gray and purchased by Chris Brengard.

The high-selling yearling colt at $36,000 was The Catman Rises. The High Brow Cat son is out of Cowstruck, dam of Im Catman $271,620; Cow Cat 299 $104,114; and Oscar Boon $82,965, among eight money earners.

A total of 168 horses sold from the catalog of 181 head, with 13 withdrawals and 26 reserves not attained. Gross sales totaled $1,640,100 for an average of $9,762, while net sales totaled $1,282,000 for an average of $9,028. Eighty-five percent (85%) of sales were completed.

The top five high sellers averaged $50,000; the top ten high sellers averaged $37,200.
