Shad Platt marked 220 on Kitty McCoy 06 to win the $10,000 Novice finals for owner Sammy Nevis of Yuba City, California Monday at the 6666 Ranch NCHA Western National Championships in Reno, Nevada. Platt also placed third on Lynne Trouchon’s Dazzlenas Hula Cat.
Bred by Juniper Ridge Ranch, Kitty McCoy 06 is by WR This Cats Smart out of Jewels McCoy, a Dualin McCoy mare that won the Non-Pro division of the 2003 Northwest Ranch Festival Futurity.
Kitty McCoy 06 has been an Open, Non-Pro and Amateur finalist in limited age events in California, Nevada, Idaho and Oregon. The 6-year-old mare had earned more than $31,000 on her way to Reno, and will add about $4,900 to her total with her $10,000 Novice win.
The reserve championship went to Brian Anderson with a 218.5 on Little Ichi Sue, a 6-year-old mare by Cat Ichi out of World Champion Meradas Little Sue, bred and owned by Frank Vandersloot.
