Spookys Nine Eleven and TF Cee Dee Stars both marked 221 to tie for the lead in the first round of the $3,000 Novice at the 6666 Ranch NCHA Western National Championships in Reno, Nevada, Sunday.
Twenty-nine horses marked 213.5 or better to advance to Tuesday’s finals in the $20,000-added event.
Spookys Nine Eleven is a 6-year-old mare by High Brow Cat, bred by Jeff Barnes and owned by Jeff and Kay Barnes of Wilton, California and ridden by Brent Erickson. She is out of Spookys Cash, an NCHA Futurity finalist and earner of $284.000. Spookys Nine Eleven has earned more than $14,000.
TF Cee Dee Stars, was bred by Travelers Farm and is ridden by Tom Long for Kimberly Thome of Santa Rosa, California. The 6-year-old mare is by CD Olena out of Starlight Dreamin, a Grays Starlight mare that is a granddaughter of 1983 NCHA Non-Pro Futurity winner Miss Doc Hollywood. TF Cee Dee Stars has earned more than $59,000. Thome was a Limited Non-Pro finalist on her at the 2009 NCHA Futurity, and the mare has also been an Open finalist at the NCHA Classic Challenge, Pacific Coast Derby and the El Rancho Futurity.
