Cats Full Moon, runner-up to ARC Catty Dual in the 2007 PCCHA Futurity, won the PCCHA 4-Year-Old Cutting Stakes at this year’s PCCHA Futurity. The High Brow Cat son, ridden by Steve Schlesinger for Brinkman Ranch, scored 225 points to top reserve champion Peptos Stylish Miss, under John Mitchell for Slate River Ranch, by four points.
Tim Smith rode Cats Full Moon, who was started by Russ Miller, in the 2007 PCCHA Futurity, but it was Schlesinger who was aboard in March 2008 for a win in the PCCHA Derby. The stallion’s half-brother, Royal Dually, by CD Royal, was the high-selling lot ($32,000) at the PCCHA Gelding Stakes Sale in March.
Cats Full Moon earned $29,542 for his win and has previous official NCHA lifetime earnings of $68,290.
Bearly Nuf Taz claimed the 2008 PCCHA Futurity with 219 points under Morgan Cromer. The Pepto Taz daughter, owned by San Juan Ranch, had placed third in the Mebane Ranch Futurity in October.
Chatty Lil Kitty, ridden by Grant Setnicka for Black Rock Ranch, scored 218 points for the Futurity reserve champion title. The High Brow Cat daughter, with nearly $45,000 earned in two months of competition, all under Setnicka, is the winner of three events: the El Rancho Futurity, the West Texas Futurity, and the West Texas Futurity Open Ltd.
Defending champion Im Countin Checks, ridden by Matt Ganies for Kyle Manion, scored 228 points to win the PCCHA Futurity 5/6-Year-Old Classic (he won the 2007 edition with 225 points). It was the 6-year-old stallion’s fifth major win in 2008 and boosted his lifetime earnings to $508,391.
Sired by Smart Lil Ricochet, Im Countin Checks, who began his career with a third-place finish in the NCHA Open Futurity, won the 2008 Abilene Spectacular and Music City Futurity Classic events with Gaines; claimed the South Point Futurity Classic under Tim Smith; and was West Texas Futurity Non-Pro Classic champion for Manion.
