Patrick and Laura Collins, whose Oh Miss Caroline won $200,000 as champion of the 2011 NCHA Futurity last December, renewed their reign on Saturday, as Oh Cay Do Over and Lach Down claimed the titles of champion and co-reserve in the Augusta Futurity.
Both horses were shown by Craig Thompson, who rode their half-sister, Oh Miss Caroline, to her NCHA Futurity win.
“This mare has that mental ability like Felix,” said Patrick Collins, referring to Oh Cay Do Over and her three-quarter brother Oh Cay Felix, 2006 NCHA Futurity Open champion under Thompson and Amateur champion with Collins.
“She was always real smart and sane, but we didn’t know how she was going to move. But she really come on in the last few months and went to the head of the tree.”
Oh Cay Do Over scored 222.5 points for her win; Lach Down and Spoons Lil Buckaroo, under Dirk Blakesley, marked 220.5.
Patrick Collins was also co-champion of the Augusta Futurity Non-Pro Classic on 5-year-old Oh Miss Peacock; finished third in the Augusta Mercuria Non-Pro finals with Oh Cay Felix; placed 18th in the Augusta Futurity Non-Pro on 4-year-old Lach Down, by Chula Dual; and rode Oh Cay Do Over, by Smooth As A Cat, as NCHA Futurity Non-Pro reserve champion.
Altogether, produce of Oh Cay Shorty earned two championships, a reserve championship and $39,879 at the 2012 Augusta Futurity.
Oh Cay Felix, Oh Miss Caroline and Oh Miss Peacock, all by High Brow Cat, as well as Oh Cay Do Over and Lach Down, were bred by the Collinses out of the Shorty Lena daughter Oh Cay Shorty, who carried Patrick, as well as his sons Max, Quinn, Lach, and Patrick II to success in the cutting arena.
Spoons Lil Buckaroo is owned by Shawn Ogni, who showed the gelded son of Hes A Peptospoonful as reserve champion of the NCHA Futurity Amateur division.
Isidro Sigala won the Augusta Futurity Non-Pro with 223 points aboard Sigala Rey, a Dual Rey daughter that Lee Francois showed to place 13th in the Augusta Futurity Open. Christina Cox was reserve champion of the Non-Pro with 218 points on Boozin Susan, by Smooth As A Cat. Christina’s husband, Lloyd Cox, showed Boozin Susan to place seventh in the Augusta Open Futurity.
