Marcy Blanchard marked 221.5 for a half-point win over top qualifier Dustin Adams in the Non-Pro finals at the NCHA Eastern National Championships, presented by 6666 Ranch, in Jackson, Mississippi, Friday.
She rode Hickorys Indian Macy, a 7-year-old mare by Hickorys Indian Pep out of CDs Masterpiece, by CD Olena.
Blanchard, a popular show secretary from Bebe, Texas, marked 216.5 for the 11th high score in Friday’s go-round. She worked midway through the second set in the finals to overtake early leader Dustin Adams, who had worked in a similar spot in the first bunch.
Last year, she was a finalist in the $5,000 Novice Non-Pro on Hickorys Indian Macy, but this is her first win at the NCHA Eastern National Championships. Don Pooley also finished fourth in the $10,000 Novice finals this year on Hickorys Indian Macy. The mare’s estimated $7,500 paycheck in the Non-Pro out of a record purse for the class of more than $49,000 will take her earnings to more than $67,000.
Blanchard’s career earnings will pass $130,000 with her win.
Reserve champion Dustin Adams rode Reyann Hickory, a Dual Rey mare that has earned more than $300,000.
