The 2006 Brazos Bash concluded on Monday, October 2 with finals in five non-pro and amateur divisions that paid more than $375,000. Matt Miller (pictured) won the Non-Pro Futurity with 216.5 points on Sheza Little Peppy; Dustin Adams and Barbara Brooks tied with 214 for reserve on Aristolcat and Teletrona, respectively.

This was the third futurity win for Miller, Poolville, TX, and his Paint mare. They also claimed championships in the West Texas Futurity Non-Pro and Ltd Non-Pro divisions, and Jamie Snyder rode Miller’s Little Peppys Ultimo daughter to place third in the West Texas Open Ltd.

Barbara Brooks’ mount, Teletrona, by Little Trona, came to the Brazos Bash off of a championship performance in the Music City Open Futurity under Brad Mitchell. “She’s real solid and a pretty moving mare,” said Mitchell, who was surprised by the mare’s win in Nashville. “Nothing spectacular, but kind of classy.”

The Brazos Bash proved lucrative for both Dustin Adams and his wife, Deena, of Dublin, TX. Dustin, who led all 2006 non-pro money earners at mid-year, collected $42,246 at the Brazos. In addition to his Non-Pro co-reserve title, Adams placed fourth in the same division riding MH Willing To Cut. He also claimed third in the Non-Pro Derby riding Reyann Hickory, his Breeders Invitational Non-Pro co-reserve champion, and split 6th through 10th on SDP Hicapoos CD, the gelding that carried him to win the NCHA Non-Pro Derby. Adams also was a Brazos Non-Pro Classic finalist aboard Billies Smart Lena.

Deena Adams, who was reserve champion of the NCHA Classic Challenge Amateur division on Billies Smart Lena, won the Brazos Bash Classic Amateur championship with 220 points on MH Lay Down Lady, and was a finalist on Dual Reyette. In the Amateur Derby, Adams tied Kaitlyn Larsen for reserve on Its Stylish Royalty and placed fourth on MH Bijous Bodee.

Rosemary Atwood, Weatherford, TX, won the Amateur Derby with 217 points on Hickory Indian High by Hickorys Indian Pep.

Clay McCullar, reserve champion (on MH Dynos Tonette) to Dustin Adams in the NCHA Non-Pro Derby, scored 224 points on Duals Play Kit to earn $19,000 as the Non-Pro Classic champion. Homegrown Duals Play Kit, a 6-year-old daughter of Kit Dual, has earnings of nearly $250,000, earned primarily in amateur and non-pro competition.

Gail Hooper, Decatur, AL, took the Non-Pro Derby with 220 points on Tummys Little Cat. At mid-year. Tummys Little Cat, by High Brow Cat, was ranked 11th among the top non-pro horses of 2006.
