Amanda Morris of Weatherford, Texas and Garrett Hampton of Rogersville, Missouri led the Senior and Junior go-round, respectively, at the NCHA Eastern National Championships, presented by 6666 Ranch, Saturday.
Morris marked 220 on John McClaren’s Smart Sandhill Kay to top the senior go-round over Jessica Bagley with a 217 on Daniel Koontz’s Cloud Nine DNA and Alexas Carissa Stephas with a 216.5 on Swing In Time.
Smart Sandhill Kay is a 13-year-old mare by Smart Mate that has earned more than $45,000. McClaren and Amanda’s dad, Craig, both made limited age event finals on her.
Morris and Stephas are currently tied for fifth in the NCHA Senior Youth World standings.
Garrett Hampton’s 218.5 on Jerry and Kim Hampton’s Duallys Drifter led the Junior Youth go-round over Matthew Dedden on A Cat Named Sure (P) with a 217.5 and Skylar Kidd on Smart Smokin Flash, owned by Alan & Jetta Heinrich.
Duallys Drifter is an 11-year-old by Dual Pep out of Lenaetta, by Smart Little Lena. Garrett’s made the finals in the past at the NCHA Eastern Nationals and NCHA Summer Scholarship Cutting.
