Andy Bylo from Sullivan, Missouri, and Cory Lowery from Gardendale, Alabama, both marked 218 to share top honors in the $15,000 Amateur finals at the NCHA Eastern National Championships, presented by 6666 Ranch.
The event offered a class-record purse of more than $46,000.
Cory Lowery, 41, drew fifth in the first set and his 218 outranked everyone else in that bunch by five or more points. He’d marked 213, two points above the bubble, coming into the finals.
JM Sky Mate is a 9-year-old mare by Smart Mate out of Sky Why, by Gallo Del Cielo. Her paycheck will more than double her previous earnings.
Bylo, 35, rode Wha Zupp, a 7-year-old by Hyadualin out of Little Siren, a Smart Little Lena mare that made several limited age event finals in the mid-1990s. Bylo also marked 218 in the go-round, to tie the Matthew Dedden for the lead going into the finals. Bylo rode second to the last in the 28-horse finals to tie Lowery.
