Order Mia Smoothie, ridden by Paula Hansma, scored 222.5 points to win the Bonanza Futurity at Glen Rose, TX on Wednesday, February 16. Tunica Futurity champions Blue One Time and Clint Allen claimed reserve with 222 points.
This was Order Mia Smoothie’s first time to show in a major open limited age event; she had placed fourth with owner Dub Leeth in the Non-Pro Senior division of the NCHA Futurity in December.
Order Mia Smoothie’s sire, Smooth As A Cat, also sired last years Bonanza Futurity champion, LHR Smooth Jamie May, ridden by Phil Hanson as 2010 NCHA Horse of the Year.
Payouts have not been made official, but LHR Smooth Jamie May earned $30,173 for last year’s win.
Order Mia Smoothie scored 219 points in the first go-round, which was won by NCHA Futurity champion One Time Royalty with 219.5 points. One Time Royalty, with Lloyd Cox, and Steves Indian, with Ronnie Rice, tied with the top cumulative go-round score of 436 points. Steves Indian finished fourth with 217.5 in the finals; One Time Royalty and Cox walked out with a zero.
