Lloyd Cox passed a significant milestone on Saturday, January 8, when he topped $5 million in NCHA career earnings, during the Abilene Spectacular. Phil Rapp, with $7.1 million, and Matt Gaines, with $5.7 million, are the only other riders who have earned more in official NCHA competition.
Cox was the leading NCHA money earner in 2010, with $480,997 – $250,000 of which came from his NCHA Futurity win aboard One Time Royalty, owned by Matthews Cutting Horses.
Although Cox was a leading contender on One Time Royalty through the Abilene Spectacular Derby go-rounds, he ended the finals in a last-place tie. But that last-place payout of $1,850, added to the $12,607 he earned as 10th and 11th placed finalist on Time To Style and Cats Sugartime, took him past the $5 million mark.
He also earned a total of $7,500 in the Classic aboard Cat On A Mission and Smart Stingray.
Phil Rapp and Matt Gaines increased their coffers at the Abilene Spectacular Derby, as well. Rapp earned a total of $20,000 aboard Smoothe Bye Design (6th) and RPL Ich This (7/9th); Gaines made $23,350 with Reycy Moon (4/5th), Million Dollar Babie (7/9th), and Alexas Cat (28/31).
