Defending Senior Cutting champions Sophisticated Catt and Boyd Rice scored 225 points on Thursday, to secure another AQHA World Championship title. It was a record third straight year Sophisticated Catt that has won at the AQHA World Show.
Lil Bit Reckless and her owner/breeder, Russ Westfall, Los Olivas, CA, earned reserve with 222 points.
“Darren Simpkins trained him and showed him until the first (of 2008),” said Rice of 8-year-old Sophisticated Catt, owned by Keith Feister and Dale Koller, Gainesville, TX.
“Then I got him and showed him at Abilene. Lloyd Cox showed him at Augusta, then Phil Hanson showed him at Tunica and Vegas, and he made the finals at every show.
“He has all of the eye appeal.”
Sired by High Brow Cat, Sophisticated Catt is the leading money earner out of 1999 NCHA Futurity Open champion Shania Cee. He is one of four siblings born in 2002 (two by High Brow Cat and two by Color Me Smart), including Cee No Color Here, $76,617. Sophisticated Cat has NCHA earnings of $175,073.
Rice also claimed the reserve championship in the Junior Cutting riding Third Cutting, NCHA’s leading active 5-year-old money earner with $405,543.
