The Waggoner Ranch Complete Dispersal, held on October 30, in Weatherford, Texas, was noteworthy in a number of ways:
*The catalog of 220 horses, with the exception of High Brow Cat and Smart Aristocrat, represented the complete breeding band and performance string of Waggoner Ranch, the all-time leading breeder of cutting horse money earners. Jack and Susan Waggoner, married for 18 years, bred the earners of more than $10 million.
*As a court ordered dispersal, consequent to divorce proceedings between the Waggoners, all horses were sold without reserve and regardless of condition at the time of sale, including six that were off-site with serious medical conditions.
*Total sales of $4,190,900, with an average of $19,385 on the 216 head of on-site horses (excluding a miniature horse), are encouraging predictors, in a recovering economy, of a healthy market for well-bred cutting horses.
While all of the Waggoner sale horses were out of strong dam lines, only 84 of them were by well proven sires, including 57 sired by High Brow Cat. The majority of the horses were sired by young Waggoner-bred stallions with no (or a limited number of) offspring of performance age.
