Highlightcat at $340,000

The Buffalo Ranch Dispersal, held at the ranch in Fort Worth on Thursday, October 14, was a bell ringer for the cutting industry with an average of $29,700 on the total catalog of 72 horses.

Buyers from New Guinea, Australia, Brazil, Germany, Mexico and Canada, accounted for 34 percent of the sales, including volume buyer Sandi Daisley of Papua, New Guinea, who paid $340,000 for the sale topper – 9-year-old stallion Highlightcat, the 2004 NCHA Futurity Non-Pro champion sired by High Brow Cat.

Daisley, who owns a ranch in Australia, also paid $100,000 for the 8-year-old Dual Rey daughter SDP Debbys Dream, who was the high-selling broodmare from 13 that were offered in the sale.

The 13 broodmares, including three older mares who have been successfully bred via oocyte transfer, averaged $53,080.

SDP Ace Of Diamonds, by High Brow Cat, was the sale’s second-highest seller at $200,000. The 3-year-old stallion, trained by Phil Rapp, is paid in full for the 2010 NCHA Futurity and was purchased by Luiz Paulo Ramos of Sao Paolo, Brazil.

A total of eight 3-year-old prospects sold for an average of $49,230.

Lot #43, a filly, name pending, by Hydrive Cat out of Hicapoo, was the high-selling yearling at $50,000. She was one of a total of 10 Hydrive Cat yearlings that brought an average price of $25,500. The eight cataloged weanlings by Hydrive Cat sold for an average of $12,275.

“One of the bright spots in the sale for Buffalo Ranch was the reception of Hydrive Cat’s offspring,” said Jim Ware of Western Bloodstock, the auction company that produced the sale. “Breeders are always looking for a value and at a $3,500 stud fee (Hydrive Cat was retained to stand at Buffalo Ranch), with 2009 yearlings as his first crop, he looks to be a good bargain. His babies are gorgeous and their (selling) prices are the proof.”
