RPL Ich This won the Music City Futurity on Tuesday with 217 points, under Phil Rapp for owner-breeder Bobbie Atkinsom, Henderson, TX. The win, from a field of nine finalists, paid $18,545.
Peeka Bunny and Tommy Marvin placed as reserve champions with 216 points for Kathy Simpson, Bee Branch, AR. Peeka Bunny, by Peeka Pep, won the State of Missouri Futurity on September 4.
RPL Ich This was among the high-scoring entries with 215.5 in the first go-round, but qualified for the finals on the bubble with 211 points in the second go-round. The 3-year-old Cat Ichi daughter is out of Ruby Duece, who was bred and shown by Rapp and his wife, Mary Ann.
Cat Ichi made a strong showing with his first performers in early futurities like Music City in 2009 and went on to be named 2009 NCHA Leading Freshman Sire at year’s end.
Peeka Pep, whose oldest foals are 5-year-olds, is owned in partnership by Tommy and Susan Marvin and Mike Townsend.
Desires Katrina tops Music City 5/6-Year-Old Open
Matt Miller showed Don and Carol Dewrell’s High Brow Cat daughter Desires Katrina to a 224-point win in the 5/6-Year-Old Open division of the Music City Futurity. Special Nu Kitty claimed reserve under R.L. Chartier for Wrigley Ranches.
Five-year-old Desires Katrina, with earnings of $87,277, including $18,668 from Music City, is a half-sister to Desires Little Rex, 6, the earner of $287,519.
Six-year-old Special Nu Kitty, by High Brow Cat, has won over $240,000; while third-placed Rey Down Sally, also 6, ridden by Gary Gonsalves for Iron Rose Ranch, approached $400,000 in career earnings with her Music City paycheck. Rey Down Sally is sired by Dual Rey.
