Chad Bushaw, Weatherford, TX, and his homebred mare Twisting Playdough claimed their second consecutive major championship yesterday with a 220.5-point win in the Bonanza 4-Year-Old Non-Pro division, in Alvarado, TX. Bushaw and the Freckles Fancy Twist daughter, also champions of the Augusta Non-Pro Futurity and finalists at the Abilene Spectacular, have earned $34,544 as a team in 2010.
Three riders tied with the second-highest score of 216 points in the non-pro division: Jennifer Foland on Shes Twice As Smooth, the Smooth As A Cat daughter ridden by Tatum Rice as reserve champion of the NCHA Futurity Limited Open; Mary Ann Rapp on Toy Engine, the Playgun daughter that Rapp showed to third place in the NCHA Non-Pro Futurity; and Wes Smith on Smart Little Macho, a gelded son of Macho Little Lena, who earned his first paycheck in Alvarado.
LHR Smooth Jamie May, ridden by Phil Hanson claimed $30,173 as champion of the Open 4-Year-Old division with 219.5 points. The Smooth As a Cat daughter also earned her first check with the win. TLC Cantinero, by Smart Little Lena, and Ryon Emerton placed second with 217 points.
