In addition to a new crop of 3-year-old cutting horses, this year’s NCHA Futurity, November 25 through December 16, will see the introduction of an innovative new sale session during the NCHA Futurity Sales. The “New Sire” Spotlight will feature offspring of new sires whose offspring are three or under.
“It’s a way to highlight and promote these young stallions and keep them in the spotlight,” explained Jim Ware of Western Bloodstock, which produces the sales for the National Cutting Horse Association. “We don’t want people to forget that these young studs were great performers and that they’re now in great breeding programs, and will no doubt be the proven sires of tomorrow.”
The “New Sire” Spotlight session will be held on Friday, December 14, during the prestigious Preferred Breeders Sale. Last year, Western Bloodstock introduced the Invitational Yearling and Weanling Sale as part of the Preferred Breeders Sale. That sale of a small, elite group of yearlings, offspring of the industry’s top sires and dams, will be held this year, on Wednesday, December 12.
The Preferred Breeders Sale was inaugurated in 1990 by Milt Bradford Sales Company. When Bradford joined with Ben Emison and Ware to form Western Bloodstock in 2000, the Preferred Breeders Sale remained as the NCHA Futurity Sales’ showcase and remains, after nearly two decades, the world’s highest-averaging Quarter Horse performance sale.
