Playin Poo, ridden by Roger Wagner for Rock Creek Ranch, Weatherford, TX, scored 220.5 points to win the Music City Cutting Horse Futurity and $17,053 on Tuesday, September 11. The 3-year-old son of Playdox was reserve champion of the Open Gelding division of the West Texas Futurity two weeks ago and also placed third in that event’s open finals.
Jim Vangilder, owner of Rock Creek Ranch, bred Playin Poo out of Poosmal, the mare he rode to win the 2002 Memphis Amateur Futurity. Poosmal is by Peptoboonsmal and out of 1994 NCHA Horse of the Year Hicapoo.
Wagner (pictured) tied for third through fifth place in the Music City 5/6-Year-Old Open Classic riding Quintan Blue for Marvine Ranch and Absolutely Stunning for Freeman and Manion. He also split tenth place for Rock Creek Ranch aboard Pet Squirrel.
Pat Earnheart won the Classic riding High Steppin Cat, by High Brow Cat, for his daughter, Kelle Earnheart. The victory will nudge High Steppin Cat’s career earnings over the $200,000 mark.
The $195,000-added Music City Futurity, held in Franklin, outside of Nashville, TN, continues through Sunday, September 16.
