Rainbow Derby winner Inseperable led a 1-2-3 sweep for trainer Paul Jones today with a front-running victory in the $624,789 All American Derby at Ruidoso Downs. The Separatist son covered 440 yards in :21.096 with Cody Jensen aboard, winning by a neck over fastest-qualifier Fantastic Corona Jr, while Royal Proclamation finished a head behind Fantastic Corona Jr, in third.
“I knew they were all good horses, but to run-1-2-3 against a field that included Stolis Winner is icing on the cake,” said Jones, who won last year’s All American Derby with Noconi. “We just beat them at the start like in the Rainbow. Jensen said. “He ran a big-hearted race. Some really nice horses came to him on the end and he just gutted it out.”
Even money favorite Stolis Winner, last year’s All American Futurity winner and 2008 world champion, finished eighth after a troubled start.
Owned by the partnership of Jimmy Harrel, H.D. Harrel, JoAnn Adams and Joe Peacock, Inseperable was a $20,000 yearling purchase at the Ruidoso Select Quarter Horse Yearling Sale. The $312,392 All American Derby winner’s take pushed his career earnings to $672,582.
The All American Derby victory earned Inseperable a return trip to Los Alamitos with a berth in the Grade 1, $750,000 Champion of Champions on December 12, where he will join Jones-trained Separate Bet in the 440-yard stakes. Separate Bet, who earned his Champion of Champions berth with a win in the Grade 1 Remington Park Championship, is owned by Jimmy and H.D. Harrel and JoAnn Adams.
Jones, who also saddled seventh-placed Brenda Beautiful and ninth-placed Fearless Fritz, has three contenders in tomorrow’s $2 million All American Futurity, including Runnning Brook Gal, installed as the 4 to 1 second-favorite on the morning line, as well as Favorite Cartel at 6 to 1, and Brooks Midnight at 8 to 1.
The complete order of finish in the All American Derby was Inseperable, Fantastic Corona Jr, Royal Proclamation, One Diamond Kitty, King Brimmerton, Louisianafeature One, Brenda Beautiful, Stolis Winner, Fearless Fritz and Zamron.
