Miss Lacey LTE $65,496, a 7-yearold Kit Kat Sugar daughter shown by Michael Cooper for Pattillo Cutting Horses, St. Elmo, Ill., scored 225 for the reserve championship. Steel Betty LTE $128,094, a 7-year-old Metallic Cat daughter, shown by Monty Buntin for Ravi Tumber, Winters, Calif., scored 223.5 points for third place and $17,738.
This is the second NCHA Super Stakes win for Hiss N Vinegar, who won the 4-Year-Old Open in 2019 under Phil Hanson, who had shown her to place seventh in the NCHA Futurity. Jennifer Foland, who has shown Hiss N Vinegar successfully in Non-Pro limited age events, also showed her on Friday, April 16, as a 6/7 Non-Pro finalist.
Hiss N Vinegar was bred by the Folands out of the High Brow Cat daughter Hissy Cat LTE $307,099, who was an NCHA Futurity, Super Stakes and Derby Open finalist under Darren Simpkins, and as an Amateur and Non-Pro finalist, including as 2008 NCHA Classic Challenge Amateur champion, for Jennifer Foland. Hissy Cat is the dam of earners of over $1.2 million, including Hiss N Vinegar’s three-quarter brother Johnny Reyngo LTE $199,470, by Dual Rey.
Geoffrey Sheehan, the NCHA Hall of Fame earner of $1,608,447, is a 12-times NCHA Super Stakes finalist, including in 2016, when he placed third on 4-year-old Cromed Out Cat LTE $246,639, owned by Beechfork Ranch.
Miss Lacey has won three championships with Langston Pattillo, including the 2020 NCHA Non-Pro Classic Challenge, the 2020 Bonanza Unlimited Amateur Classic, and the 2020 Brazos Bash Unlimited Amateur Classic. Steel Betty was an impressive finalist in 2020, with a win and reserve under Monty Buntin in the 2020 El Rancho Futurity 5/6 Open and the Utah Futurity 5/6 Open. She also carried her owner Ravi Tumber as champion of the PCCHA 5/6 Amateur Futurity, and the PCCHA Intermediate Amateur 5/6 Futurity.
