Stephanie Haymes-Roven, Weatherford, Tex., and Dannica Percevich, Belle, Fourche, S.D., tied with 219 points on Monday, April 5, the first day of NCHA Kit Kat Sugar Super Stakes 5-Year-Old Amateur go-round competition.
Stephanie Roven was aboard Desires One And Only LTE $54,352, who Brandon Westfall had shown to place third in the 2019 NCHA Non-Pro Futurity. Roven and the One Time Pepto gelding, owned by Reata Cutting Horses LLC, earned their first money together this year, in the Cattlemen’s Derby Amateur Unlimited. Roven, the 2008 NCHA Non-Pro World Champion and NCHA Non-Pro Hall of Fame earner of $983,752, claimed her first NCHA Super Stakes earnings as an Amateur 4-Year-Old finalist, in 1996 showing Lonesome Merada LTE $32,966, and was a Non-Pro Classic finalist in 1999 on Shesa Squall LTE $110,017, who she also showed to win the 1998 NCHA Classic Challenge Non-Pro championship.
Desires One And Only bred by Rockin 5 Ranch, Fairhope, Ala., is out of Desire Some Freckles LTE $188,890, dam of the earners of $1,606,812, including Thundercat LTE $302,762 and Desires Little Rex LTE $287,519.
Dannica Percevich, the NCHA earner of $103,383, was showing Tallic Toy LTE $14,778 in the 5-Year-Old Amateur, on Monday. Bred by Beechfork Ranch, Weatherford, Tex., the  Metallic Cat daughter is out of Smartlittlenastoy LTE $21,321, the dam of the earners of $593,675.
Percevich was a 2020 NCHA Futurity Non-Pro Limited finalist riding Reyd Roan LTE $6,105, by Metallic Cat, and won the 2018 NCHA $15,000 Amateur World championship, as well as the 2018 NCHA $15,000 Amateur World Finals, on Wild Haired Lilly LTE $107,632, by Wild Haired Cat.
Ken Schultz and Cornrey corner competition in 6/7 Non-Pro 1st go-round
Ken Schultz, Sacramento, Calif., a finalist in the 2019 NCHA Super Stakes 4-Year-Old Amateur Unlimited with Calvin Baloo LTE $107,769, by Lil Catbaloo, scored 220.5 points riding Cornrey LTE $56,207 on Monday, April 5, to top the last day of NCHA Kit Kat Sugar Super Stakes 6/7 Non-Pro first go-round competition. Julie Jarma, Ardmore, Okla., riding Blackish LTE $202,232, and Elizabeth Quirk, Denham Springs, La., on Candi Cat LTE $135,156, tied with 220 points, the go-round’s second-highest score.
Ken Schultz, the NCHA earner of $413,845, placed in the 1994 NCHA Non-Pro Super Stakes on Bob Acre Oak LTE $114,880, who he had also shown to place third in the 1993 NCHA Non-Pro Futurity, and showed Reys Of Starlight LTE $127,054 to place fifth in the 2016 NCHA Super Stakes Non-Pro Classic, as well.
Most recently, Schultz won the 2021 Pacific Coast 4-Year-Old Non-Pro Roundup riding Meytallic LTE $38,704. Cornrey, his 2021 Super Stakes 6/7 Non-Pro mount, was bred by Dan and Karen Hansen, by Dual Smart Rey, out of Bobcorn LTE $154,809, the dam of earners of $761,149. As a 4 and 5&6-year-old limited age event finalist, Cornrey was shown by Scott Amos for Karen and Hank True, Glenrock, Wyo.
Julie Jarma, the NCHA earner of $638,149, has been an NCHA Super Stakes finalist nine times, including in the 2019 Non-Pro Classic riding Hott Heels LTE $202,827, by Hottish. Blackish, also sired by Hottish, was bred by Jarma out of SS Blacks Lil Kitty LTE $187,137. Blackish was shown by Lloyd Cox as a finalist in the 2018 Super Stakes, and by Jarma to win the 2019 Brazos Bash Non-Pro Classic with Jarma.
Elizabeth Quirk, the NCHA Hall of Fame earner of $1,194,200, has been a Super Stakes Non-Pro finalist five times.
