Kidd Kat Sugar, shown by Rodrigo Taboga for Belle Terre Ranch, Corinth, Miss., scored 222 points on October 27 to win the Open 3-Year-Old Southern Futurity on October 28, in Jackson, Miss. In addition to his Open Finals winner’s share of $17,145, Kidd Kat Sugar also earned $1,773, as the division’s top Gelding, as well as $7,596 from the 2020 SCHA Stallion Incentive.
Knicks N Lakers, owned and bred by EE Ranches of Whitesboro, Tex., and shown by Guy Woods, scored 218 points for the reserve championship and $14,300, while Double Zee, bred and owned by Kevin and Sydney Knight, Weatherford, Tex., and shown by Tatum Rice, placed third in the nine-horse finals with 217 points, to earn $11,456. Double Zee also claimed $1,245 in the Gelding division, and $6,077 from the 2020 SCHA Stallion Incentive.
Kidd Kat Sugar LTE $27,644, a gelding sired by Kit Kat Sugar out of Haidandsmoke LTE $47,741, was bred by Darrell and Stephanie Copeland, McAlpin, Fla.
Haidandsmoke, by Smart Smokin Pep, was reserve champion of the NCHA Eastern Nationals Open and $10,000 Novice finals in 2008, with the late Sam Shepard. She has produced 2 earners of $114,685, including Barney Ross LTE $87,041, by Bamacat.
Missy Etheridge won the Non-Pro and Intermediate Non-Pro championships on Kidd Kat Sugar at the Cotton Stakes in September.
Rodrigo Taboga has NCHA earnings of $526,592, with wins this year in the NCHA Derby and Cattlemen’s Derby on Sanctus LTE $131,906. He also won the Southern Futurity 4-year-old championship last year on The Dewd LTE $123,579.
Knicks N Lakers LTE $23,984, by Laker Doc, is out of the Cat Ichi daughter Snicker Bar Ichi LTE $12,876, a three-time Novice finalist at the NCHA Eastern and NCHA Western National Championships, under Guy Woods. Knicks N Lakers is Snicker Bar Ichi’s first NCHA money earner.
Guy Woods is the NCHA Hall of Fame earner of $2,764,918.
Double Zee LTE $60,554, by Reyzin The Cash, is out of Eazee E LTE $211,145, the 2017 Reserve World Champion and dam of three earners of $493,294, including 2018 NCHA Futurity champion Crey Zee LTE $347,844 and Jae Zee LTE $84,896, who placed third with Tatum Rice in this week’s 4-Year-Old Southern Futurity.
Earlier this season, Double Zee and Rice also won the West Texas Futurity and claimed reserve championships at the Brazos Bash and the Idaho Futurity.
Tatum Rice is the NCHA Hall of Fame earner of $2,589,380.
The Southern Futurity continues through Oct. 31.
