Results of the NCHA Super Stakes Sale, held on Saturday, April 14 at Will Rogers Equestrian Center, Fort Worth, TX confirm the strength of cutting in the performance horse world.
The spring sale, a prime market for show horses, saw an average increase of $2,000 per head over the 2006 sale. The catalog of 145 horses realized 80 percent completed sales, with an unofficial average of $15,001, according to Jim Ware of Western Bloodstock, the company that manages and produces all of the National Cutting Horse Association sales.
The high-selling lot was Blue Leboon (pictured), consigned by Sandy Bonelli and purchased for $135,000 by Johannes Orgeldinger, Gainesville, TX. The 5-year-old red roan mare, sired by Peptoboonsmal, was the 2005 NCHA Futurity Non-Pro champion and most recently, was a top 10 non-pro finalist with Bonelli in the Pacific Coast Cutting Stakes.
Kit Kat Merada, a 5-year-old daughter of High Brow Cat, was the second-highest selling lot at $127,000. The NCHA Futurity Non-Pro finalist, in training with Paul Hansma, was consigned by Milt and Mary Bradford, Weatherford, TX, and purchased by Black Rock Ranch, Coeur D’Alene, ID.
Honkytonk Diva, third-placed in last year’s Non-Pro Super Stakes, brought $115,000 from Linda Souders, Boulder, CO. The 5-year-old daughter of Royal Fletch was consigned by Sarah Morine.
The high-selling broodmare, at $75,000, was HR Dual Crystal, in foal to Cats Merada. The 11-year-old Dual Pep daughter was consigned by Sergio Elia and purchased by Mark Kendall, Scottsville, KY.
