Love Samba, fastest qualifier to the G1 Rainbow Futurity, today clocked the fastest qualifying time to the $2.4 million All American Futurity. Her time of :21.201 was the fastest from 20 trials for the 440-yard G1 stakes race to be held on Labor Day at Ruidoso Downs
“We’ve been taking our time with her because we’ve been pointing to the All American Futurity all along,” said trainer Blane Wood, who also qualified First Corona Call and Gols Victory Pop.
After winning her Rainbow trial by 4 lengths, Love Samba flipped in the starting gate of the Futurity and had to be checked by the track veterinarian before the race began. She finished fourth.
Jim Pitt, Burkburnett, TX. Pitt purchased the Corona Cartel-sired filly for $160,000, at last year’s Ruidoso Select Quarter Horse Yearling Sale. Jockey Ricky Ramirez rode Love Samba in this, her fourth, start.
Runnning Brook Gal, fastest qualifier to the G1 Ruidoso Futurity and runner-up in the Rainbow, scored a 1 3/4-length win in the ninth trial, as the second fastest qualifier. The homebred Brookstone Bay-sired filly, owned by Albert and Chad Richard, was one of 21 trial entries trained by Paul Jones. He also qualified his own horse, Favorite Cartel, as well as Brooks Midnight, owned by Chad Richard and sired by Brookstone Bay.
