Toytallic, ridden by Geoffrey Sheehan for Beechfork Ranch, marked 221 Friday to tie for the lead in the first round of Open competition at the 2018 North Texas Chevy Dealers NCHA Futurity, presented by Great American Insurance in Fort Worth Texas.
The homebred Metallic Cat mare equaled the high score set the previous day by Crey Zee, ridden by Tatum Rice for his in-laws, Kevin and Sydney Knight.
Badboonarising, ridden by Adan Banuelos, marked 219.5 for the second high score so far in the go-round. It was the second of five days for Open first-round hopefuls showing in historic Will Rogers Coliseum.
Toytallic is out of Smartlittlelenastoy, a 2003 Abilene Spectacular that also earned money in the NCHA Super Stakes and NCHA Derby go-rounds with Ronnie Rice before she retired with over $21,000.
Smartlittlelenastoy, by Smart Little Lena, has produced earners of more than $462,000, headlined by Lean On Rey, a Bonanza Non-Pro champion under Sam Good, and an earner of $153,000.
A full sister to Toytallic, Metallictoy, has earned more than $96,000, with Amateur championships at the Breeders Invitational, West Texas and Cattlemen’s Classics, ridden by Madison Crum.
Toytallic’s third dam, Badger San Doc, was reserve champion in the Non-Pro NCHA Super Stakes with Sheila Welch in 1989, and also won the Bonanza Non-Pro that year. Badger San Doc later went on to win the 1991 Southern Classic Non-Pro with James Hooper, who would become president of the NCHA a few years later, and is now in the NCHA Members Hall of Fame.
Badboonarising, whose 219.5 on Friday ranks him third currently in the Open NCHA Futurity, is ridden by Adan Banuelos for Plantation Farms of Denham Springs, Louisiana. The horse was bred by Royce Stallcup, who sold him for $150,000 at last year’s Western Bloodstock NCHA Futurity Sales.
He is by NCHA Classic Challenge winner and second-year sire Once In a Blu Boon, out of Show Biz Kitty, a High Brow Cat that has produced three money earners of more than $417,000.
Show Biz Kitty won over $185,000, mostly in Non-Pro competition for Julie Jarma, and has produced $93,000 earner Blackish, winner of this year’s Ike Hamilton Futurity and Cattlemen’s Derby with Lloyd Cox.
Show Biz Kitty is also the dam of the third-ranked 4-year-old money year of 2018, Rollz Royce, who has Open championships at the Brazos Bash, Pacific Coast, Southern Derby and West Texas Derby under Beau Galyean, earning more than $173,000.
Badboonarising’s second dam, Show Biz Sandy, was 1993 NCHA World Champion with Billy Ray Rosewell.
Sueper Trouper, ridden by Grant Setnicka for J Five Horse Ranch of Weatherford, Texas, marked 219 to tie three horses from Thursday for the next highest score. Bred by Todd Nelson, Sueper Trouper is by Dual Smart Rey, out of Ichis My Choice, by Cat Ichi.
Ichis My Choice earned more than $418,000 and won multiple Open and Non-Pro titles with Grant Setnicka and J Five Ranch’s Constance Jaeggi on the way to being named 2016 NCHA Horse of the Year. Ichis My Choice is also a full sister to the 2018 NCHA Derby champion, The Animal.
