Ettafied, ridden by Gabe Reynolds for Lisa and Jamie Johnson of Benson, North Carolina, marked 218 Tuesday to lead the first round of the $5,000 Novice at the 6666 Ranch Eastern National Championships in Jackson, Mississippi.
The 6-year-old High Brow CD gelding also showed in the $25,000 Novice finals later in the day.
Ettafied was bred by Glenn and Debbie Drake out of Travs Foxetta, a Travalena mare that Devlyn Drake showed to win the Amateur division of the El Rancho Classic in 2007. Travs Foxetta is out of Stylish And Foxie ($303,000 earner and $756,000 producer), who in turn was out of $539,000 producer Foxie Merada.
In January, Ettafied was an Open finalist with Reynolds and an Unlimited Amateur finalist with Lisa Johnson at the Augusta Classic.
Two horses, Metallic Sister and Mayzie Cats, marked 217 for the second highest score of the $5,000 Novice go-round.
John Leign Townsend showed Metallic Sister for Tommy and Kay James of Gainesville, Texas. The 6-year-old mare by Metallic Cat out of Little Baby Sister, was a frequent Amateur finalist with Vick Pannell over the last two years. Her dam, Little Baby Sister, is a $1.2 million producer whose babies include Sister CD ($833,000).
Scott Wray rode Mayzie Cats for Jarrett and Shannon Callahn of McConnells, South Carolina. The 4-year-old mare is by King Of The Cats out of Miss Mayzie Wood, a half-sister to $552,000 producer Play Miss. Wray was an Augusta Futurity finalist on Mayzie Cats earlier this year.
The $5,000 Novice finals are scheduled for Wednesday.
