RC Fancy Step and Shawn Flarida scored 232.5 points to win the 2009 National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Derby, on Saturday, June 27 in Oklahoma City. RC Fancy Step, a 5-year-old daughter of Wimpys Little Step, earned $50,000 for owner Buffalo Ranch, Fort Worth, TX.
Hollywoodtinseltown, by Hollywood Dun It, and Marco Ricotta claimed second-place with 230.5 points for David J. Silva, Jr.
Flarida, who won last year’s NRHA Derby on Wimpys Little Chic, by Wimpys Little Step, also placed third with 229.5 on the 5-year-old mare, owned by Arcese Quarter Horses.
With his 2009 Derby offspring earnings, Wimpys Little Step became one of only four sires with $4 million in NRHA offspring earnings. Flarida is the all-time leading NRHA money earner with more than $3 million.
Buffalo Ranch is the home of cutting horse champions and sires TR Dual Rey and Hydrive Cat.
