Since 1995, Careity Foundation’s Celebrity Cutting Horse event has brought together international celebrities from all walks of life for an evening of fun and philanthropy. Sports figures, physicians, performing artists and more come to try their hand at the sport of cutting and support Careity’s work with economically disadvantaged cancer patients and critically ill children.
On Friday evening, December 1, sixteen celebrities participated in the 23rd annual Careity Celebrity Cutting. Bob Kingsley, a past champion of the event, was the first to compete. Kingsley, a long-time supporter of the NCHA and the most listened-to radio voice in country music history, hosts “Bob Kingsley’s Country Top 40,” which airs on more radio stations than any other syndicated music program.
Katy Keenie, a country recording artist with roots in Texas and the sport of cutting, was fourth to the herd and set the bar for those to follow with a score of 220 points. Jay Novacek, former Dallas Cowboys star, as well as former Celebrity Cutting Champion, rode fifth and earned 216 points.
But it was Hal Brown, founder and owner of Panther City Publishing Media, Fort Worth, who claimed the championship with a 223-point ride aboard Boon San Baby, owned by Rocking P Ranch of Fort Worth.
Following the cutting, competitors and guests enjoyed dinner in the Amon Carter Hall and entertainment provided by top Country trio Midland.
