First crop sire Hottish made his mark in the first go-round of the NCHA Open Futurity, which was won with 222.5 points by his son Dual Reyish, ridden by Austin Shepard for Billy Wolf, Whiteboro, Tex. In addition, Reyzmehot, by Hottish, earned 222 points, the go-round’s second-highest score, shared with Metallicious, by Metallic Cat; One Alley Cat, by High Brow Cat; and Smoken Some Lena; by Dual R Smokin.
From a total of 20, half of Hottish’s entries advanced to the second go-round, with six scoring 218 or more points, including Hott Nu Cowboy, who tied Third Cuttin Cat with 219 points on Monday, to top the sixth and last day of Open first go-round competition. Two hundred and fifty-two horses with scores of 213.5 points or more advanced to the second go-round, which begins on Tuesday, November 21.
Hott Nu Cowboy, shown by Sean Flynn for Bobby and Mary Jo Hawkins, Seguin, Tex., was bred by Wrigley Ranches out of High Brow Cat daughter Special Nu Kitty LTE $301,268, dam of four NCHA earners of $148,220. Special Nu Kitty is also the dam of Special No Boon, by Boon Too Suen, who scored 219 points with Michael Cooper on Friday, for Rose Valley Ranch.
Bobby and Mary Jo Hawkins also own Taliate, by Metallic Cat, shown by Casey Green to score 220 points and advance to the second go-round.
Sean Flynn, NCHA Hall of Fame earner of $2,484,296, placed fourth in the 2009 NCHA Futurity on Catmas LTE $164,813, and counts the 2013 NCHA Derby on Buzzted $268,298, among his many wins.
Third Cuttin Cat, by Third Cutting, is shown by Boyd Rice for Kit and Charlie Moncrief, Fort Worth, Tex., who owned 2000 NCHA Futurity Champion Royal Fletch in partnership with his rider and breeder Kathy Daughn.
Boyd Rice, NCHA Hall of Fame earner of $4,175,139, won the 2009 Super Stakes and the NCHA Derby on Third Cutting LTE $528,268. Among his many other wins, Rice also claimed the 2005 NCHA World Championship aboard Bobs Hickory Rio, as well as the 2007 NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity with Oh Cay N Short.
Mister Silver Pistol, by Metallic Cat, posted 218.5 points, Monday’s second-highest score. Shown by his owner, Ken Hanson, Weatherford, Tex., the bay stallion is out of Silver Pistol Pepto LTE $117,977, also dam of Metalic Pistol, who scored 218 points on Thursday, under Skip Queen, to advance to the second go-round.
