Metallic Rebel, the leader and gaining in the run for 2017 NCHA Open Horse of the Year, as well as the year’s leading money earner, prevailed with a $20,000 win in the 2017 Brazos Bash Classic Open on Monday, September 25. Meanwhile, Hashtags and Cattys Hope maintained close point counts at second and third in Horse of the Year Open standings, following the Brazos Bash Derby.
Metallic Rebel LTE $357,305, owned by Thomas Guinn, Philadelphia, Miss., and shown exclusively during his career by Beau Galyean, scored 228 points for his win, after securing the finals with matching go-round scores of 223 points. It was his fifth major championship win in 2017 and his tenth lifetime win. In addition to his show career, five-year-old Metallic Rebel has also been standing to the public, subject to his show schedule, at Brazos Valley Stallion Station, Stephenville, Tex.
The 5-year-old Peptoboonsmal daughter Play Miss Boonsmal LTE $110,156, owned by Danny Jones, Alberta, Canada and shown by Eddie Flynn, scored 221.5 points for reserve, while the 5-year-old Starlights Gypsy gelding Littlemak LTE $116,862, shown by Jon Burgess for Anderson Cattle Company, Victoria, Tex., placed third with 221 points.
Cattys Hope LTE $211,467, sired by Catty Hawk and shown by Michael Cooper for Rose Valley Ranch, Weatherford, Tex., and HR Cats Starlight LTE $126,683, by High Brow Cat and ridden by Tarin Rice for E.J. Huntley, Houston, Tex., tied with 224 points for the win in the Brazos Bash Derby Open Finals. Hashtags LTE $253,589, by Metallic Cat and shown by Tatum Rice for Hashtags Ventures, Weatherford, Tex., scored 223.5 points to place third.
Three horses tied with the winning score of 218 points in the Brazos Bash 3-year-old Open Finals: CR Tuff Mudder LTE $26,580, sired by Woody Be Tuff and shown for George Lane, Lancaster, Calif., by Russ Westfall; Gato Borracho LTE $17,828, by Cats Merada, shown by Michael Cooper for Jeff and May Jones, Weatherford, Tex.; and Graces CD LTE $32,009, by High Brow CD, shown by Matt Miller for Janice Eaton, Peachland, BC.
