Jody McGlothlin, Perrin, Tex., topped the second and last day of Lucas Oil NCHA Super Stakes Non-Pro first go-round competition with 220.5 points aboard Somethingtobelievein, by Hydrive Cat. Cole Rothwell, Dallas, Tex., riding Khaleesi Cat, and Wade Smith, Geary, Okla., on Third Lucinda, tied with 219 points, the day’s second-highest score, while Holly Francois, Murchison, Tex, took third-highest with 217 points riding Smart Dual Kat.
Riders with scores of 207 points or higher advanced to Wednesday’s second go-round, including first go-round high-scorer Quinn Collins with 221 points on Metallicity, by Metallic Cat.
Jody McGlothlin and Somethingtobelievein LTE $40,892 made their debut in the 2016 NCHA Futurity, where they claimed the Limited Non-Pro championship with 222 points. Following the NCHA Futurity, McGlothin and Somethingtobelievein were reserve non-pro champions of the 2017 Augusta Futurity and placed fifth in the Cattlemens Derby Non-Pro. Meanwhile, Brett McGlothlin showed Somethingtobelievein to place in the Augusta Futurity Open, the Cattlemen’s Derby and, most recently, as an NCHA Super Stakes Limited Open finalist.
Somethingtobelievein, out of Playin T Etta LTE $100,692, by TR Dual Rey, is a three-quarter sister to Tallica LTE $50,717, by Metallic Cat. Jody McGlothlin is the NCHA earner of $125,749.
Cole Rothwell, Dallas, Tex., won the 2017 Cattlemen’s Derby Limited Non-Pro and was reserve non-pro champion riding Khaleesi Cat LTE $41,569, by Jazarell Cat. However, the pair earned their richest paycheck when they placed sixth in the 2016 NCHA Futurity Non-Pro. Rothwell, the NCHA earner of $386,491, placed third in the 2006 NCHA Derby Non-Pro on Peppys Stylish Lena LTE $176,579, and was champion of the 2004 NCHA Super Stakes Amateur Classic on Little Lady Stylish LTE $34,089.
Khaleesi Cat is out of Bobbie Boonsmal LTE $29,589, by Peptoboonsmal, a full sister to JoJo Boonsmal LTE $159,941, the 2009 NCHA Futurity Open Limited champion under Geoffrey Sheehan.
Wade Smith, champion of the 2016 NCHA Futurity Unlimited Amateur on Metallic Candelit LTE $24,508, and winner of the 2017 Bonanza with Magistic Moon $120,265, is the NCHA earner of $317,896. Most recently, Smith placed third in the 2017 NCHA Super Stakes Classic Unlimited Amateur aboard Magistic Moon, and fourth in the same division on Smoothee Lou LTE $42,864.
Third Lucinda LTE $11,160, by Third Cutting, and Smith placed fourth in the 2017 Arbuckle Mountain Unlimited Amateur and ninth in the Bonanza Unlimited Amateur.
Holly Francois, NCHA earner of $120,953, was reserve champion of the 2011 NCHA Derby Non-Pro riding Dualsadie LTE $71,585, by Dual Pep. Francois also placed third in the 2013 NCHA Futurity Non-Pro Limited aboard Popin Tagz $39,439, by Halreycious.
