Second Spot, ridden by NCHA Hall of Famer Matt Gaines for Gary and Shannon Barker of Madill, Oklahoma, marked 225 to lead the Open semi-finalists Friday night at the Jerry’s Chevrolet NCHA Futurity, presented by Great American Insurance.
Twenty horses marked 216.5 or better to advance to Saturday’s finals.
The Barkers’ homebred mare is by Spots Hot out of Reycy Moon, a Cats Moonshine mare that earned $209,000, mostly with Gaines. Reycy Moon won the Cattlemen’s Derby, and was reserve champion at the Brazos Bash and Tunica. Her dam, Twice As Reycy, was reserve champion of the NCHA Futurity with Lloyd Cox and earned $194,000. Twice As Reycy’s dam, Rey Lena Girl, produced earners of $525,000, while Rey Lena Girl’s dam, Jay Moss, has earners of $761,000 to her credit.
Austin Shepard, who won the 2007 NCHA Futurity on High Brow CD, marked 222 in the semi-finals on Sir Long Legs, a High Brow Cat x Lil Lena Long Legs stallion owned by Lew Hall of Highland City, Florida.
Tatum Rice marked 221.5 on Hashtags, a Metallic Cat x Dual Rey Tag stallion owned by Jose Raul Garcia of Miami, Florida.
Jesse Lennox marked 220 on Cinca Im Hot, a Spots Hot x Cinca De Maya mare owned by Rocking P Ranch of Fort Worth, Texas.
Grant Setnicka also marked 220 on Mistresssis, a Metallic Cat x Smart Crackin Chic mare owned by Texas Holy Cow Performance Horses of Weatherford, Texas.
