Non-Pro Hall of Famers Janet Westfall, Dean Holden and Kelle Earnheart shared the top score of the day Sunday as the first round of Non-Pro competition continued at the Jerry’s Chevrolet NCHA Futurity, presented by Great American Insurance.
Each of them marked 216.5 to lead Sunday, while Sarah Morine and Georgy On My Mind retained the overall lead with a 218.5 from Saturday.
Westfall, from Los Olivos, California, rode Laguna Girl, a mare bred by Switchback Cutting Horses by CD Royal out of Cats Stylish Diva. Westfall was reserve champion of the 2000 NCHA Non-Pro Futurity on CD Royal. Cats Stylish Diva was a limited age finalist at the Calgary Stampede and Western States Fall Futurity. Westfall has qualified for the NCHA Futurity four times.
Holden, from Marietta, Oklahoma, rode Samson Made Of Metal, a gelding bred by Jan Moles by Metallic Cat out of Peptos Barbie. He is a half-brother to Peptos Stylishbarbie, an earner of $66,000. Holden is a five-time NCHA Futurity finalist, with a best finish of fourth on Stop Toying With Me in 2013.
Earnheart, the 2009 NCHA Futurity Non-Pro champ on Badgers Perscription from Weatherford, Texas, rode Snap Kwackle Pep, which Earnheart bought on the eve of the Futurity. Snap Kwackle Pep was bred by Stephen and Lisa Ralston by One Time Pepto out of Kwackin. Kwackin, a granddaughter of Open NCHA Futurity champion Lynx Melody, has already produced earners of $519,000, including Catting ($225,000) and High Brow Kwackin ($152,000). Earnheart has qualified for the NCHA Non-Pro Futurity 12 times, as well as once in the Open, and twice in the Limited Non-Pro.
