Beau and Wesley Gaylean, Ardmore, OK, were the stars of the Abilene Spectaculor Non-Pro this week in Abilene, Texas. Beau, 26, won the 4-Year-Old Futurity and $15,000 on Myles from Nowhere, his NCHA Non-Pro Futurity reserve champion, while Wesley, 23, claimed the 5 and 6-Year-Old Classic and $18,000 on Spots Hot, the stallion he rode to win the 2004 NCHA Open Futurity championship.
“This horse was really green going into the (NCHA) Futurity,” said Beau of Myles From Nowhere, who he purchased late last fall. “I took a chance on him and he took a lot of work, but he’s been there for me.”
In addition to his reserve championship in the NCHA Non-Pro Futurity, Beau also rode the Smart Little Jerry son to split sixth and seventh in the NCHA Open Futurity. This week’s winnings, pushed Myles From Nowhere’s earnings just over $150,000.
Wesley Galyean cashed in with $31,000 during the Abilene show. In additon to his victory on Spots Hot, he also placed third and 17th in the Non-Pro Futurity on Missing Addition and Shes Icing Onthe Cat, respectively, and was a Classic finalist (22nd) on Starlight On The Bay. His Classic win pushed Spots Hot’s earnings past $456,000.
“They’ll never be another one like Spots Hot,” said Galyean of the Chula Dual son that he trained and showed himself in the NCHA Futurity.
Sarah Morine scored 217 on Loyalty Runs Deep, by Peptoboonsmal, for reserve in the Abilene Non-Pro Futurity; while Skip Queen placed second and third in the Non-Pro Classic on Sister CD, by CD Olena, and Glows, respectively.
