A week after winning the Grace Ranch High Brow CD Junior Youth World Finals on Spookystimetoshine, 15-year-old Ryan Rapp came back to win the Limited Non-Pro NCHA Derby. This time he rode Tuff Julie at the NCHA Summer Spectacular, presented by Great American Insurance.
He rode second in the eight-horse finals to mark 222 for the win, worth $8,533. Teresa Padgett marked 216 on Cutting N Black for the reserve championship.
Tuff Julie was bred by Teresa Wilson by Woody Be Tuff out of Missys Powder, by Powder River Playboy.
Rapp was a Limited Non-Pro finalist on the mare at the NCHA Futurity, and placed third at the Super Stakes. He also made the Non-Pro and Limited finals at the Breeders Invitational. The mare has now earned more than $37,000, and is also a contender in Saturday’s Non-Pro finals.
Reserve champion Teresa Padgett bred her reserve champion Cutting N Black by Third Cutting out of $130,000 producer Miss Docs Command, by Miss N Command.
Padgett, who also qualified for Saturday’s Non-Pro finals, has been reserve champion of the NCHA Limited Non-Pro Futurity on Boonlight Fishn (2010), and NCHA Derby Non-Pro and Limited Non-Pro finalist on Very Good Bourbon, a half brother to Cutting N Black.
