Von Sutten, 39, of Fort Worth marked 222 for a half-point win in the Rios of Mercedes Unlimited Amateur Classic Challenge, presented by Bar RR Ranches, Thursday morning at the NCHA Summer Spectacular, presented by Great American Insurance. Madalyn Colgrove of Boligee, Alabama, took the reserve title with a 221.5.
Sutten rode One Stylish Pepto, a 5-year-old gelding bred by Cows & Horses Etc., by One Time Pepto out of Frecklesareinstyle, a multiple aged event champion that earned $184,000. Sutten was a Breeders Invitational finalist with One Stylish Pepto this spring.
His latest win is worth $11,452, including $2,500 sponsored by Bar RR Ranches.
This was Sutten’s third major win in Will Rogers Memorial Coliseum. He won the 2008 NCHA Amateur Super Stakes with Smartware, and the 2013 Unlimited Amateur NCHA Derby with Whiskers And Rumors.
Reserve champion Madalyn Colgrove rode One Catty Cupid, a One Time Pepto mare bred by Arcese Quarter Horses out of Pacific Coast Futurity champion Arc Catty Dual. Colgrove rode the 5-year-old to win the Unlimited Amateur at the Breeders Invitational this spring.
