Doug Pritchett of Quinlan, Texas, and Dual Glen Rey 012 marked 219.5 to win the Rios of Mercedes Unlimited Amateur Derby, presented by Bar RR Ranches Wednesday at the NCHA Summer Spectacular, presented by Great American Insurance.
Bear Davis and Susan Koser shared the reserve championship wiht a 218.5.
Pritchett rode Dual Glen Rey 012, a Dual Rey x Stylish Amanda mare bred by James Eakin. Stylish Amanda earned more than $100,000 and now has offspring earnings of more than $400,000.
Pritchett, who has won Limited Non-Pro senior championships at the NCHA Futurity and Derby in recent years, was scoring his first finals win in Will Rogers Coliseum. He took home more than $8,200, including $2,500 from Bar RR Ranches.
Co-reserve Bear Davis of Sacramento, California, rode Red Solo Cat, a Metallic Cat, Amanda Starlight, gelding bred by Rod and Mary Jane Kelley. Davis won the Unlimited Amateur at the Super Stakes and the Amateur at the Breeders Invitational with the gelding who comes from the same distaff line as Dual Glen Rey 012.
Co-reserve Susan Koser of Weatherford, Texas, rode Dmac Moveslikejagger, a gelding bred by Marvine Ranch by Smooth As A Cat out of $230,000 earner Cherry Chex Dually, which carried Jon Winkelried to the 2010 NCHA Classic Challenge Amateur championship.
