Ashley Flynn of Weatherford, Texas, and Elizabeth Quirk of Denham Springs, Louisiana, both posted cumulative scores of 435 to lead the second round of the Non-Pro at the Lucas Oil NCHA Super Stakes in Fort Worth Wednesday.
They top a list of 48 contestants who marked 427 or better to advance to Thursday’s semi-finals.
Flynn put together back-to-back 217.5’s for her score. She rode LHR Smooth James Rey, a gelding bred by South Lazy H Ranch by Dual Rey out of Horse of the Year LHR Smooth Jamie May. She was reserve champion of the Non-Pro NCHA Futurity on LHR Smooth James Rey.
Flynn was a Super Stakes finalist in 2014 with Cow Scents.
Quirk’s go-round scores were 219 and 216. She rode Mosses Man, a Metallic Cat gelding bred by Linda Holmes out of Nurse Moss, a full sister to Dual Rey. Mosses Man was an NCHA Futurity Open finalist with Kory Pounds, and a Non-Pro finalist at the Bonanza with Quirk.
Quirk is a two-time Super Stakes finalist, riding A Cat Be Nimble in 2011, and Boudin Cat in 2014.
