Ken Sitton and Little Swiss Desire, by Desires Little Rex, marked 218 to win the Limited Non-Pro finals of the Lucas Oil NCHA Super Stakes Classic in Fort Worth Sunday evening. Sitton, a 57-year-old trucking company owner from Freeport, Texas, also took the senior championship.
Lisa Taylor of Pilot Point, Texas, marked 214.5 on Scootin In Stilettos, by Smart Lil Scoot, for the reserve championship.
Little Swiss Desire was bred by Jerry Durant out of Swiss Cat, a major LAE finalist that also produced $165,000 earner Swiss Cat Pepto.
Sitton bought Little Swiss Desire last fall and promptly won the Limited Non-Pro, Unlimited Amateur, Senior Unlimited Amateur and Senior Non-Pro on the mare at the Waco Texas Futurity.
Sitton, who has been cutting about 19 years, was getting his first win in Will Rogers Coliseum.
A former defensive back stand-out for the Oklahoma Sooners and a 1981 draft pick by Baltimore, Sitton said football brings out aggression, but cutting requires a more laid-back approach.
Reserve champion Lisa Taylor was riding her home-bred 6-year-old mare Scootin In Stilettos. She was an AQHA World Show finalist on the mare’s dam, Visa Lena, and has earned checks at the NCHA Classic Challenge, The Bonanza, and the Ike Hamilton Classic on Scootin In Stilettos.
