Janice Knox Little of Johnson City, Texas, marked 219 on Thursday to lead the Rios of Mercedes NCHA Super Stakes Amateur Classic at the Lucas Oil NCHA Super Stakes in Fort Worth, Texas.
She rode Wendels Player, a 5-year-old gelding bred by Sunrise Ranch by High Brow CD out of 2004 NCHA Super Stakes Open champion Playin Tag.
Little won the West Texas Derby Amateur with Wendels Player last summer, and has finished in the top three at the Cattlemen’s , Ike Hamilton and Abilene Spectacular Classics this year. Wendels Player has earned more than $17,000.
John Rockey of Palmdale, California, had the second high score of 217 in the Amateur go-round on Thursday, riding Let Georgie Do It, a son of Metallic Cat.
Candy Abshire of Tomball, Texas, led the first day of the Unlimited Amateur Super Stakes Classic with a 217 on Thata Rey, a 5-year-old gelding by Dual Rey out of Cat Smarts. Abshire won the Unlimited Amateur at the Southern Derby on the gelding, and has also been a two-time reserve champion with him at the Brazos Bash.
The Amateur qualifying rounds of the Super Stakes Classic continue through Sunday.
