Bred by Beau and Ashley Galyean, and owned by Judy Siebel of Ross, California, Maid Of Metal is a 5-year-old mare by Metallic Cat out of Pretty Smart Kitty. Pretty Smart Kitty is a direct descendant of Doc’s Kitty, the 1970 NCHA Derby champion with Shorty Freeman.
Maid Of Metal was reserve champion at the Idaho Derby and the Pacific Coast Winter Roundup with Cromer, and has earned more than $44,000.
Friday’s leader, One Catty Cupid, with Austin Shepard, held on to second place in the first round with her 220.
Time N Tequila, a 6-year-old One Time Pepto x Nu She Wood gelding ridden by Craig Thompson for Mike and Debbie Schraeder of Tomball, Texas, marked 219.5 for the third high score of the first round.
One hundred twenty-two horses with scores of 213.5 or higher advance to the second round of the Lucas Oil NCHA Super Stakes Classic is scheduled for Easter Sunday.
