Shannon Callahan of McConnells, South Carolina and CR First Tuff marked 221 to win the $15,000 Amateur finals at the 6666 Ranch NCHA Eastern National Championships in Jackson, Mississippi on Friday. She had tied for the top score in the go-round with a 217 the day before.
CR First Tuff is a 7-year-old son of Woody Be Tuff bred by Center Ranch out of Dees Cats Meow, a High Brow Cat mare that won the Non-Pro championships at Augusta and Suncoast and won $134,000.
CR First Tuff placed third in the NCHA Super Stakes and won the West Texas Derby with Boyd Rice and has earned more than $155,000.
Shannon Callahan was a $50,000 Amateur finalist at Augusta earlier this year. This was her first trip to the finals at the NCHA Eastern National Championships.
Rick Jacobs marked 218.5 for the Reserve Championship on Playgun Is Smart. The 12-year-old mare is by Playgun out of Twistin Cee, a daughter of million-dollar producer Lynx Melody. Playgun Is Smart has previously been an Eastern Nationals finalist in the $35,000 Non-Pro and $15,000 Novice Non-Pro with Lisa Anne Jacobs.
